Prospect Hot Sheet – Week Ending 5/29/2016

1.) Max Povse – RHSP – Carolina Mudcats

Povse continues to scream “Look at me, look at me!!!” Hopefully someone – other than us, of course – is paying attention. His latest gem against Frederick (Orioles) (5 IP, 1 ER, 6 hits, 10 Ks, 2 BBs) brings his season line to a stellar 3-2, 2.58 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, .226 BAA, and only 1 HR allowed with a 57/11 K/BB Ratio covering 52.1 IP.  If anyone deserves a promotion, it’s Max.

2.) Tyrell Jenkins – RHSP – Gwinnett Braves

Tyrell posted two more solid starts against Norfolk (Orioles) and Syracuse (Nationals), allowing 4 ER and 12 hits in 13 IP – striking out 13 while walking only 3. He’d likely be getting a call to get his feet wet in most organizations as soon as the Super Two deadline is no longer a concern. Since he’s with the Braves, he’ll continue to work on cutting down his walks and further developing his offspeed pitches as he waits for an injury or implosion from someone ahead of him.

   3.) Joseph Odom – C – Carolina Mudcats

The Braves’ 2013 13th Round pick is quietly putting together a solid season. He’s coming off a week where he slashed .364/.417/.500/.917 with 3 2Bs, improving his season numbers to .279/.341/.426/.767 with 11 XBHs and a respectable 13/22 BB/K Ratio.

4.) Alejandro Salazar – SS – Rome Braves

Another of the Braves seemingly endless stream of middle infielders signed from abroad (Venezuela in Alejandro’s case), the 19 year old Salazar had a hot week for Rome. In 6 games against Hickory (Cubs) and Greenville (Red Sox), the youngster slashed .429/.455/.476/.931 with a 2B, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored.

5.) Leudys Baez – CF – Rome Braves

Baez is another young international signee (Dominican Republic) getting his first taste of full-season ball this year in Rome. Leudys very capably stepped in for the injured Ronald Acuna and slashed .333/.385/.375/.760 while driving in one run and scoring 3 times.
